Hello readers, it’s Gaichi again. Today I would like to talk about my beloved senior, Kota Morii, also known as morii senpai. I met Morii Senpai on day one of Judo club and if I had to describe him in one word, it would be intimidating. His massive and muscular body looked like as if he was someone not to be messed around with. His gigantic hands looked like it could’ve crushed my skull in one go. And his facial expression was always empty. So its obvious that my first impression of him wasn’t that good.

It was about a week in since I started Judo club and that’s when I finally talked to him for the first time. After a grueling 4 minutes of Randori (sparring), Morii senpai approached me and stood right next to me. Since my first impression wasn’t that good, I was shaking in fear. Sweat was dripping down my palms. My heart was beating 50 miles per hour and my legs trembling in fear. His presence was the definition of fear. But this all changed when he taught me correct Judo. He taught the proper and most effective way of grabbing my opponent during a match. This is also known as Kumite. Thanks to him, Im now able to do Kumite better than I did when I just started this sport.

That time was the moment I recognized Morii senpai’s  good side. What stood out the most is his humor. He is a very humorous person. The only reason why I saw him so serious was because he was concentrating on judo during practice. But after practice, Morii senapai jokes around a lot and creates a lively atmosphere for other Judo players at the club which helps everyone to be close with each other. His kindness also never ceases to amaze me. He continues to teach me proper Judo and never shows how tired he his or how much a pain in the neck I am to him. He also listens to my worries and regrets and comments on what I should do next.

He continues to show his passion towards judo and he continues to be a responsible senior who not just speaks, but listens as well. He has my respect and the respect of many other juniors.
